Free Entry to the Memorial

Admission to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial is free of charge, but requires advance online reservation.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum is committed to making the site accessible to all who wish to pay their respects and learn. While admission is free for individual visitors, the cost of maintaining the Memorial and providing educational services is significant. Fees are charged for guided tours, which are essential for most visitors. See our guided tours page for more information.

Free Entry Policy

Entry to the grounds of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial for individuals wishing to visit without a guide is free of charge. However, due to the immense number of visitors, a personalized, timed entry pass is required for every person.

    • Reservation is Mandatory: Free entry passes can ONLY be reserved online at the official website, visit.auschwitz.org.
    • Limited Availability: The number of free passes is limited and they are often fully booked weeks or months in advance.
    • Entry Times: Free individual entry is typically only available during specific hours, usually later in the afternoon, as morning and midday slots are reserved for guided groups.

Reduced Prices for Guided Tours

While there are no general discounts on the free entry pass (as it is already free), reduced prices are available for the paid guided tours for certain categories of visitors.

    • Students: Students up to 26 years of age with a valid student ID may be eligible for a reduced rate.
    • Seniors: Visitors aged 75 and over may also receive a discount.

Please check the official booking website for the most current prices and eligibility requirements when reserving your guided tour.

Free Entry FAQ

Understanding the reservation system

Can I show up without a reservation and enter for free?
No. As of March 2026, all visits must be booked online in advance. You cannot get an entry pass on-site.
Why should I pay for a tour if entry is free?
Free entry slots are extremely scarce and often at inconvenient times. More importantly, the historical context provided by a guide is crucial for a meaningful visit. The fee supports the preservation of the Memorial and its educational mission.
Are there any other free days?
Unlike some museums, Auschwitz-Birkenau does not have special "free days" because standard individual entry is always free (with a reservation). The policy is consistent throughout the year.
